Health and Life Skills
Health and Life Skills develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults. NetSmartz, a program that teaches Internet safety skills through engaging multimedia activities and offline interaction with Club professionals, and Passport to Manhood, which promotes and teaches responsibility to boys through activities and discussions that reinforce positive behavior, are just two of the fall programs that will be offered in this core area.
Passport to Manhood (Boys ages 11–14)
Passport to Manhood promotes and teaches responsibility to boys through activities and discussions that reinforce positive behavior. Each Club participant receives his own "passport" to underscore the notion that he is on a personal journey of maturation and growth.
Fun with Food (Ages 6-9)
This group learns the basics of food preparation and baking. Class instruction will range from using measuring cups to craking an egg. The group also bakes and decorates desserts.
Cooking Club (Ages 10–12)
This small group program teaches the basics of cooking as well as safety in food preparation. The group will create a range of desserts and meals.
Skill Tech 1 (Ages 6-9)
This program teach younger children computer basics. Instruction includes everything from Internet safety to Microsoft Office programs.
Smart Girls (Girls ages 9-13 and 14+)
Smart Girls is a health, fitness, prevention/education, and self-esteem enhancement program designed to meet the developmental needs of girls ages 9-13 and 14-17. Through dynamic sessions and participatory activities, they build skills for eating right, staying physically fit, and developing positive relationships with peers and adults.
